Elena AronovaElena Aronova is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History and the Science Studies Program at the University of California at San Diego, having previously earned a Kandidat Nauk degree in biology/history of science from the Russian Academy of Sciences for her dissertation on the history of Lamarckism in 20th century immunology. Her publications include “Karl Popper and Lamarckism,” Biological Theory 2, no. 1 (2007): 37-51; “In Search of the Soul in Science: Medical Ethics’ Appropriation of Philosophy of Science in the 1970s,” History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences 31 (2009): 5-34; “Big Science and Big Data in Biology: From the International Geophysical Year through the International Biological Program to the Long-Term Ecological Research Program, 1957-present,” forthcoming in Historical Studies in the Natural Sciences 40, no. 2 (2010) (with Karen Baker and Naomi Oreskes). Her current research focuses on the Cold War roots of science studies as an academic field in the U.S., U.K. and U.S.S.R.
