Science Studies students can apply for funding for research related travel, travel to attend conferences, tuition and fees (continued funding), and dissertation fellowships (writing quarter, which includes tuition and fees).
Travel and Research Funding
The Office of Graduate Studies annually awards departmental funding for graduate student travel and research. You are invited to submit requests for funds for research travel and/or conference travel twice during each academic year: once in October and once in April.
Because funds are limited, we encourage you to supplement your request for resources from Science Studies with other sources, such as your home department, and fellowships with the conferences you’ll attend. Also, please follow the guidelines on saving money while setting up your trip found here.
Maximum awards are set at $1500 for domestic research travel, $2500 for foreign research travel, and $500 for presenting a paper at a scholarly meeting or attending a conference. If you would like to apply for funding greater than the sums listed, you may appeal to the director to prove how the amount of money you seek is essential to the trip/research. Submit applications to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For all conference and research travel reimbursement the UC San Diego Student Certification for Business-Related Travel form is requried.
Science Studies and the home departments award most graduate students up to three years of tuition and fees. In their fourth and subsequent years, students can apply for individual quarters of funding. The deadline for this annual application is in May.
Also called a writing quarter, Science Studies offers dissertation funding for students who wish to spend an entire quarter concentrating on their dissertation. This fellowship includes a $6,000 stipend and tuition and fees (roughly $5,000). The deadline for this annual application is in May.
